Jerry Hay is the author of a children's book about the true adventures of Gilligan the Goose. Gilligan is Jerry's friend who has  had some adventures of his own. Read the unusual story about how they met and bonded. Gilligan is always making life interesting along the river. The unique feature of the book is that the story is true and Gilligan is a real goose. He is well known by local river people who are greeted by him as they pass in their boats. The book was released in the fall of 2004 by HJ Kramer publishing. Look for it in book stores everywhere. In his upcoming book, Beyond the Bridges, there is an entire chapter dedicated to the adventures of Gilligan. Readers will laugh and his antics and have their heart warmed, reading about this loveable goose. UPDATE: Meridian International Art Centre and the Library of Congress have selected illustrations from "A Goose Named Gilligan" book to represent the state of Indiana in a traveling art exhibit. It was chosen for it's quality and for depicting the natural beauty of Indiana, and particularly the Wabash River. Go to meridian.com for more information about the exhibit and what cities it is scheduled for display at.

Reviews

Booksmatter:
Gilligan the goose is given a second chance at life when he is rescued by Jerry and decides to follow him home, in an extraordinary tale of friendship that stresses the importance of preserving wildlife and our environment

"Through the Looking Glass" children's book review:                                                          This wonderful story about a man who loves and appreciates wildlife and wild places is refreshing in its unaffected narrative and in the author's obvious fondness for Gilligan the goose. Animal lovers of all ages will enjoy the story and the clear and light illustrations

Forbes Book Club:
A Goose Named Gilligan is the true story of a beautiful, untamed river, a man who cherishes it, and a most extraordinary goose. When the Wabash River starts receding, Jerry rescues the exposed river mussels from hungry raccoons. He soon discovers another threatened creature: a beautiful wild goose caught in a fishing line. Unable to fly, the goose will surely drown unless Jerry intervenes. Once freed, grateful Gilligan follows Jerry home, but the man knows that wild creatures should live in the wild. The way the goose resolves the dilemma shows how conflicts can be solved creatively. Beautiful color illustrations are featured throughout

Alibris:
Hay and Pollema-Cahill tell the true story of a beautiful, untamed river, the man who cherishes it, and a most extraordinary goose that resolves a dilemma in a most creative way

Amazon:
I had the pleasure of riding on the Delta Queen Steamboat last year where the author, Mr. Hay is a Riverlorian. He told the story about Gilligan Goose. I have not read the book yet but the heartwarming story is wonderful. Jerry Hay is a great storyteller so I'm sure the book will be great, as well. The incredible thing about the story is that Gilligan is a real goose and the story he told is true. I am ordering copies for myself and each of my grandchildren.
